{"id":297,"date":"2013-09-27T18:32:02","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T22:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mainlyprompts.com\/?p=297"},"modified":"2013-09-27T18:32:02","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T22:32:02","slug":"some-bunny-loves-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mainlyprompts.com\/?p=297","title":{"rendered":"Some Bunny Loves You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>9-26-13\u00a0 3 step prompt, picked at random.\u00a0 Write about &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>A thought:\u00a0\u00a0 That bunny has nice long ears he can tug on when he\u2019s anxious.<\/p>\n<p>A feeling:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lassitude<\/p>\n<p>A sensation:\u00a0 I feel as though spiders were crawling on my\u00a0skin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I awoke with a start.\u00a0 The clock on the bedside table read 3:21.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know what it was that had spooked me, but I felt as though spiders were crawling on my skin.\u00a0\u00a0 I pulled the covers up around my chin and rolled to my side to increase the contact on my body.\u00a0 I needed that sense of being touched to feel safe.\u00a0 The spiders slowly left, and I lay on my side in the dark, pondering life and my place in it.<\/p>\n<p>Work had been going downhill fast.\u00a0 I started something, and was overcome with lassitude halfway through the job.\u00a0 I had to force myself to work these days.\u00a0 Thoughts of poverty didn\u2019t help.\u00a0 Homelessness in this Valley was beginning to seem like sitting in the lap of luxury.\u00a0 What could I do to motivate myself?\u00a0 Lying in bed until 7 am wouldn\u2019t do it anymore.\u00a0 Clients don\u2019t stand for lateness more than two or three times.\u00a0 Pretty soon the calls would become few and far between.\u00a0 I resolved to do better, and closed my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>When I awoke, it was 7:30, and the alarm clock had been shut off.\u00a0 Now I knew I was in trouble.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even remember my self-destructive behavior anymore.\u00a0 I threw my clothes on, brushed teeth and hair, and ran to the van.\u00a0 My resolution had been hijacked by fate.<\/p>\n<p>Painting in the morning went well.\u00a0 Carpentry and a bit of trim work went okay in the afternoon. That evening, the newly installed toilet leaked for fifteen minutes before I tightened the right bolt.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t dare charge what the job was worth.\u00a0 I felt bad for the client because my heart didn\u2019t seem to be in it.<\/p>\n<p>I dragged myself home and collapsed into bed.\u00a0 Isn\u2019t this where it all started?\u00a0 Come on, spiders, do your thing.\u00a0 I thought about writing for a little while, but couldn\u2019t come up with anything.\u00a0 Good for me.\u00a0 First workers block, and now writers block.\u00a0 I pulled the blanket tight, the autistic in me wanting full contact.<\/p>\n<p>The clock read 3:11 when I awoke this time.\u00a0 Still black as night.\u00a0 Funny, that expression.\u00a0 Could you use it when describing nighttime?\u00a0 I rolled over and turned on the light, squinting to avoid the \u201csudden light\u201d headache.\u00a0 I sensed a small movement in the far corner of the bedroom, and sat bolt upright.\u00a0 There, sitting in the corner of my bedroom, was a larger than life cartoon bunny, dressed in a light blue suit with black slippers on.\u00a0 It sat there, looking scared and glum, and pulled on it\u2019s ears.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know which of us was more surprised.<\/p>\n<p>From my position in bed, I studied the bunny for a while without making a move or sound.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to scare the little thing.\u00a0 I did for a moment wonder where reason had gone.\u00a0 Perhaps I was actually still asleep.\u00a0 I pinched myself on the left arm, not hard enough to really hurt but just to check.\u00a0 When I did this, I saw the bunny flinch.\u00a0 Curiouser and curiouser.\u00a0 I tipped my head to the side a bit, and the bunny blinked.\u00a0 I crossed my legs and folded my hands in my lap.\u00a0 Bunny looked ready to run through the wall.\u00a0 Should I?\u00a0 I wondered.\u00a0 What the hell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcuse me,\u201d I said in a quiet voice, \u201cbut can I help you with something?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bunny leaned forward a bit, and wiggled its nose at me.\u00a0 It did release it\u2019s ears and sit back a bit, looking slightly more relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you a boy bunny or a girl bunny?\u201d\u00a0 I said.<\/p>\n<p>Can you imagine a rabbit giving me a look as though I was the biggest moron it had ever met?\u00a0 Cocked head, cocked eyebrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould you like to join me up here where it\u2019s cozy?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>Bunny hesitated a bit, then moved forward and hopped up onto the bed, scrabbling with its hind legs for traction and moving over to my side. I lay down facing the bunny and just looked at it.\u00a0 It hunkered down, closed its eyes, and was asleep.<\/p>\n<p>Well, as Robert Heinlein once said, \u201cThere was nothing I could do, so I took a nap.\u201d\u00a0 I rolled over to turn the light off, and lay myself down to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>When I woke up in the morning, it was a minute to five; my usual time to rise, and the bunny was still there.\u00a0 I got up fior my morning ablutions, came in to dress, and got out of the house to go to work.\u00a0 Mr. Bunny would have to fend for himself.<\/p>\n<p>I felt good about work, and the bunny stayed with me for a good long while.\u00a0 We became companions, and motivators.\u00a0 I kept working, and the bunny relaxed in my company.\u00a0 I had no idea what it did while I was out for the day, but it was always there in the evening.\u00a0 Welcome home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>9-26-13\u00a0 3 step prompt, picked at random.\u00a0 Write about &#8211; A thought:\u00a0\u00a0 That bunny has nice long ears he can tug on when he\u2019s anxious.
